i can't lie: it's hard for me to resist a man with a beard. it's a surefire attraction for me. i think this affinity for beards also carries over into my musical taste. i had never thought about this before, until an article on NPR.com brought this brilliant parallel to my mind. the kind of music i like is typically made by men with beards: ray lamontagne, bon iver, iron & wine; they are all bearded and exceptional artists.
though the author of the article prefers a different, less pleasant and more wild, form of rock music, i find myself on the other end of the argument. i'll take a pensive and whispery song any day over insipid lyrics screamed through the speakers by a pretentious rock star. the bearded men are rock stars in their own right, without even having to try.
i say, if music is going the way of the beard, count me in.
um, can i just say wow to this blog post? dude. this is an exceptional post. great word choices and very clever. insipid? shoot. "going the way of the beard"? you are a genius. i would publish you.
ReplyDeletethat's very kind of you, but i cannot take credit for this idea. carrie brownstein from NPR is the genius behind "the way of the beard." i just expounded on the other side of her thoughts. if only i could be so inspired to come up with that phrase!
